The phone case itself has a fairly solid build, as it is made from impact-resistant plastic. The phone comes with a dimmer switch option to let you control light output. The case light is an LED warm light, which does not get hot to the touch, even when you leave it on for several minutes. The light is powered by a rechargeable battery, which lasts for two full hours of bright use or 36 hours of lowlight use. With average usage, the phone case should go a few weeks without needing to be charged.
