Visiting the Palace of Versailles is akin to visiting a fantastical dreamland: Just outside of Paris sits one of France’s most pristine and esteemed landmarks, and sometimes a daytrip from the City of Lights just isn’t enough time to explore the palace and grounds commissioned centuries ago by Louis XIV. Soon visitors will be able to enjoy much more quality time in the royal atmosphere amidst the 17th-century marvel when construction begins on a new hotel that will rest just outside the palace walls, but still on the proper grounds of Versailles.
Three currently standing buildings on the property are in the works to become accommodation options for tourists and visitors. Dating back to the late 17th century, the buildings have been in desperate need of renovations, and hoteliers are taking advantage of the opportunity to transform the buildings into travel lodging.
The planned 5-star hotel will house 23 rooms and offer incomparable views of the Palace of Versailles and its gardens. Sip a café au lait and sample cakes across the lawn from where Marie Antoinette once powdered her nose and Louis XIV took royal baths.
Scheduled to opens its doors in 2016, the Hôtel du Grand Contrôle will be one of the only accommodation options in the immediate palace surroundings.
