Destination

Macau is picking up steam as a globally appealing travel destination, thanks to its thriving casinos and a recent nod from Lonely Planet as one of the best places to travel in 2015.

Macau is a compact region, covering a mere 11.6 square miles, so it’s easy to cover over a long weekend. Among the must-see highlights are:

Walk Through Macau City: Macau is in part known for its glitzy new casinos, but the city has done well protecting its historic sites, too, resulting in a dizzying blend of old and new. Take in the mix of Chinese and Portuguese architecture in Macau’s central city by following one of these outstanding self-guided walking tours.

Visiting a Temple: Macau’s temples are scattered in back alleys and perched on hilltops. You may stumble upon several, but worth a detour is the A-Ma Temple, the city’s oldest.

Eating Street Food: Street food is everywhere in Macau, so it’s almost unavoidable. Highlights include pork jerky, pork chop buns and Portuguese egg tarts.

Visiting the Macau Tower: The Macau Tower soars above the Macau peninsula, with views stretching to mainland China and Taipa Island. Oh, and you can plummet down the world’s tallest bungee jump if you dare, or take a heart-thumping walk around the observation deck’s outer perimeter.
