Margaritaville Beach House Key West recently debuted a new mosaic mural, measuring three stories on the southeast façade of the hotel. The mural features more than 250,000 hand-cut tiles, at 21 feet wide and 25 feet tall. Two colorful macaw parrots serve as the focus of the custom artwork, designed by Whitespace Interiors.
“There was no better choice than Malena Perdomo and her amazing team of artisans to interpret our design as a monumental mural. The quality of this piece is defined by her team’s unparalleled attention to detail and a keen sense of color, all of which culminates in an entirely unique, bespoke work of art,” said Michael Dalton, principal, Whitespace Interiors. “The Whitespace team was honored to work alongside Malena to guide this iconic piece, which was inspired by the one-of-a-kind locale, landscape and attitude of Margaritaville Beach House. It is our great hope that the guest experience, and their memories, will be made even more joyful by this striking addition to the property.”
The project took eight months to conceptualize and implement. After the design was approved and a high-resolution image was created, 26 female mosaic artisans hand-cut the piece into more than 250,000 glass tiles to be placed on aluminum sheets for installation, which took six days.
The resort on Smathers Beach boasts 186 suites, a lagoon-style pool, lounging hammocks, poolside entertainment, daily refreshments, a fitness center, lawn games, Tin Cup Chalice Bar & Chill and much more.
“This huge façade mural is the latest – and largest – piece to join the resort’s collection of custom-created projects by female artists,” said Tom Anderson, general manager, Margaritaville Beach House Key West. “Florida-based artist CoLette RueLette has painted several interior walls throughout the resort, showcasing her Key West and nautical themes and designs.”
