Croatia is home to several hidden vacation gems, but the small town of Preko tops the list. Located on the scenic island of Uglijan, visitors can enjoy views of the quay and Zadar Channel while partaking in an authentic Mediterranean cultural experience complete with history, great food and wine.

Trends / Top Trends

A recent study from financial services company Allianz Global Assistance examined the ever-growing micro-cation trend. A micro-cation is defined as a leisure trip lasting fewer than five nights.

Millennials are the main supporters of this trend, with 72 percent of the millennials surveyed stating they took at least one micro-cation in the last year. One upside of this trend is it allows travelers to travel more frequently. Twenty-nine percent of millennials took at least three micro-cations in the last year.

In general, these trips replace a traditional week-long vacation. Eleven percent of those polled said their longest trip was only one or two nights. Some of the common reasons for taking a micro-cation include ease in taking less time off from work, not needing more than five nights for the purpose of the trip, preferring taking more frequent shorter trips, not wanting to spend money for longer trips and ease in finding a travel companion for shorter trips.

Cost and income influence travel habits, with those with a higher income more likely to take longer trips. Of those surveyed, 51 percent of people making $50,000 or more took trips longer than five nights.
