Have you ever come home from work and just wanted to eat a bowl of your favorite childhood cereal? Perhaps Captain Crunch or Lucky Charms, maybe Fruity Pebbles? If your cookie doesn’t crumble as much as it fuses together in a Golden Graham marshmallow treat, then Milk Bar is the place for you.

The creative force behind these creations is Christina Tosi. She was recently featured on Netflix’s first season of Chef’s Table. Her love of childhood treats and the nostalgia they generate is at the heart of all of her recipes. She was given her break by David Chang at his noodle bar, Momofuku, in New York City. It is only within this collaboration of culinary wizardry Milk Bar could have been born. Tosi’s creations are magical and even if you cannot eat them at the source, she has written multiple cookbooks. Feast your eyes and hearts on such classics as Crack Pie, Birthday Cake and Compost Cookies.

The recipes for these highlights of her collection are found online, but be warned these are deceptively simple treats. They look straightforward and like something your mom and grandma would throw together on a rainy Tuesday, but Tosi is known for her intricate recipes within recipes. There are many pieces and parts that go into the Birthday Cake — frosting, cake, cake soak, birthday cake crumb — but if you have some time and a lot of energy for the most delicious chemistry experiment of all time, then give it a whirl. Or buy a ticket to NYC and get in line.
