Top fall foliage destinations can get pricey during peak leaf-peeping time. However, you can save a bit of your travel budget if you plan to make tracks for one of the destinations featured in Dollar Flight Club’s recent study on the most affordable destinations for fall foliage, based on airfare.
Comparing 500,000 airfare data points, the brand found, if you’re flying between Sept. 17 and Oct. 10, the cheapest destinations you should consider include Asheville, North Carolina; Boston, Massachusetts; Burlington, Vermont; the Adirondack Mountains, New York; and Stowe, Vermont. The study reports you’ll pay as little as $170 for flights to Asheville during that timeframe, and up to $300 for the fifth-cheapest fall foliage destination: Stowe.
Do note, however, the study did not include data as to which specific airports you’d need to fly into in order to get to these cheapest destinations. For example, most travelers aren’t flying directly into the Adirondack Mountains, as air service is extremely limited, so, to get these cheaper flights, you might need to fly into a larger hub and then drive to your leaf-peeping destination. Still, if it’s fall foliage you’re after, you might not mind the drive at all.
