Music festival season is fast approaching. Many of the main events begin in May and run through September, but like all good things, tickets sell out fast and early.
The pressure to get tickets early is more palpable than ever; presale for Bonnaroo came and went in November 2015 before the lineup was even released. The festival is celebrating 15 years in Manchester, Tenn., June 9–12.
Bonnaroo isn’t the only music festival applying the pressure. Firefly, a relatively new music festival, gained immense popularity after its first year in Dover, Del.. Beginning in 2012, tickets were $90 for a weekend of music and camping. General admission this year is for four days at $300, but with dates from June 16–19, music fans are going to have to choose wisely between the two lineups for Bonnaroo and Firefly. Or just settle for whichever hasn’t sold out yet.
Weekend passes for Bumbershoot in Seattle, Wash., are already on sale for their Labor Day show in September. Three-day passes are available for $165, making this show one of the more affordable ones. Bumbershoot’s lineup for 2015 was amazing, leaving great big shoes to fill for this year’s set, which hasn’t been announced yet.
The music festival game can be expensive and impulsive; it forces music fans to be quick on their feet, but worth the trip.
