Waiting in upstate New York is a salon and spa experience drawing from local, natural elements and therapeutic wellness traditions. The spa offers a variety of facials, massages, clinical skincare and body treatments emphasizing Native American traditional ways and beliefs.
Tara Tekahentakhwa Tarbell, a Native American Mohawk, opened the spa in 2010 as an opportunity to keep her heritage and roots alive by incorporating wellness and spa treatments.
The Spirit of the New Moon is a signature massage treatment at The Indigenous Spa, which takes place during the phase of the new moon. It begins with a ritual foot scrub, followed by a full body and scalp massage. The scalp massage is intended to stimulate mental function, activate intuition and enhance inner guidance. Other specialized treatments are geared toward expectant mothers, athletes and children.
Each treatment is intended to focus on and work with certain energy flows in order for you to get the most out of the experience. Your treatment is also paired with auditory and aroma experiences, highlighting soothing nature sounds and the smells of sweet grass, sage and lavender.
