New travel-focused website brettapproved aims to help people with disabilities travel confidently with the accessible information they need.
The world’s first algorithm-driven, scalable review and rating website devoted to serving the needs of travelers with disabilities takes the guesswork out of travel by providing accessibility-related information about restaurants, hotels and venues around the world.
“There are 300 million people with a mobility challenge in the world,” said Brett Heising, founder/CEO, brettapproved, and a former journalist who is disabled. “Globally, tourism was a $1.5 trillion industry in 2014 and travelers with disabilities represent 11 percent of that market, spending $165 billion worldwide. Put simply, the market brettapproved serves is large, growing and deserves a much-improved user experience when traveling.”
The website seeks to change the world one review at a time through its growing community of travelers. Establishments are ranked using a “brettscore,” a numerical algorithm reflecting user ratings, with higher brettscores representing a more accessible facility.
“Travel review sites are not new, but our approach surely is,” said Heising. “People around the world contact us every day, excited about the heightened prospect of pleasure travel that is more fun or business travel that is just easier. Knowing what to really expect, and the ability to make informed choices in advance, is crucial to travelers with disabilities. We’re on to something.”
The website features information highlighting how many rooms a hotel offers that are accessible for physically challenged and disabled individuals, whether or not guestrooms have roll-in showers and grab bars and how accessible parking spaces and entryways are at restaurants.
Brettapproved encourages travelers to get in on the ground floor and help best-test user profiles by joining the website and sharing feedback.
