The work of legendary French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent will be commemorated in two new museums this year, one in Paris and the other In Marrakech. Both cities were important in the designer’s life and development.
The Paris museum will be located at 5 Avenue Marceau, in the location Saint Laurent designed his works from 1974 to 2002. There has been a small museum there showing the designer’s personal objects and furniture; it will be closed in April and redesigned, widened and reenergized. There will also be a refurbishing period of Saint Laurent’s famous home in Paris.
The Marrakech museum will be located near the stunning Majorelle Gardens, restored by Saint Laurent and Pierre Berge in 1980. The gardens are currently home to the Berber museum and a gallery of colorful postcards Saint Laurent used to send his clients at the beginning of every year.
The Marrakech museum will open on Rue Yves Saint Laurent and will cover 4,000 square feet with a permanent exhibit of Saint Laurent’s work and a space for traveling exhibits, an auditorium and a research library.
Both are expected to open in September this year.
