Kanye West made his formal entrance into the fashion world just two years ago, debuting the Boost 750 in collaboration with Adidas at Yeezy Season 1. Prior to that, West released Air Yeezy with Nike and collaborated with Louis Vuitton and BAPE, in addition to premiering his women’s line, DW Kanye West. The two showcases at Paris Fashion Week received mixed reviews, but also displayed the artist’s improvement.
Season 1 premiered in late 2013 and 9,000 Yeezy Boosts sold out within 10 minutes. West’s following shows grew in quality and extravagance, bringing Season 2 to New York Fashion Week and premiering Season 3 late last year in Madison Square Garden, previewing his latest album, The Life of Pablo. The show was monumental in scope, turning the runway into a swirl of social and political symbolism West is known for.
The show also received mixed reviews, though many noted Madison Square Garden was not a venue made for catwalks and the event is more of an artistic statement than a fashion showcase. Despite the lukewarm response, Season 4 will be highly anticipated at New York Fashion Week, and Adidas recently announced a new long-term contract with the artist to produce performance products for basketball, football, soccer and more.
