Many resorts in Hawai’i can feel crowded and rowdy, with boisterous families filling the pool and beach areas. But at Kauai’s Ko’a Kea Resort, you can relax in luxury, and you’ll feel as though you have the place to yourself. It’s the ideal place to set the stage for a romantic experience in Kauai.

The beachside resort has 121 guestrooms and suites, but it feels more like a bed and breakfast. Concierges and valets remember your name and offer hiking tips and restaurant recommendations. Visitors are greeted with a lei and a concierge walks you to your room, helping answer questions and orient you to the property.

The rooms encircle a pristine pool area with an abundance of chairs and umbrellas. Several more populate a lawn that opens onto the ocean, and a small but beautiful beach.

The south shore beaches, including the one at Ko’a Kea and a few within a short walk along a paved path, are ideal for snorkeling, surfing, stand-up paddle boarding and swimming. The hotel’s activity kiosk rents various equipment and offers lessons, all at reasonable prices that in some cases are lower than what you’d find elsewhere on the island.

Rooms and their balconies open onto the pool area, ocean or the property’s exquisite gardens. Each is tastefully decorated with modern, sea-inspired touches that complement the view out of your windows.

Ko’a Kea has won accolades for its spa, which offers massages, wraps and facials. Services are administered inside the spa, in your room or ocean side, with the crashing surf as your backdrop.

And the hotel’s on-site restaurant, Red Salt, uses local inspiration for modern plates in view of the ocean. It’s great for a romantic dinner, and also for its breakfast buffet to fuel up for a day of adventuring.
