The Museu Oscar Niemeyer is a gem of a museum located in the heart of Curitiba, Brazil. Its namesake designer created the building in the shape of an eye, though it’s not immediately clear upon first glance. The structures are still magnificent to behold, though, and the surrounding landscape is just as beautiful as the artwork and held within.

I arrived on a Sunday, when entrance is free, but it’s typically around $10 for adults. There were multiple rooms to explore inside, though getting through them all could take up half of your day. There were 10 altogether, I believe, with the Sculpture Garden being my favorite. Many of the exhibitions change throughout the year, so you never quite know what you’re going to find.

It’s housed within a park with plenty of restaurants and shopping opportunities around in case you want to make a day of it.

I will say some of the exhibitions were a bit shocking and darker than I imagined they would be. I’m not sure I’d call them family friendly, as they showcased a lot of violence. There are a lot of local and historic artists hidden within the eye.

A lot of families seem to love coming to the area as they can be found playing with their children and dogs all around the grounds. Overall, it’s a great experience and a fun place to spend a few hours and learn about history and art.
