RFID Blocking Wallets for Your Travels

Most of our credit cards, passports and even driver’s licences carry RFID (radio frequency identification) chips in them. These chips can store and read our data, so instead of needing to swipe your card through a reader, you can simply place your wallet alongside the RFID scanner. It’s incredibly convenient.

The downside is that, unfortunately, it’s possible someone would make a counterfeit reader and pick up your RFID information without you even knowing it. Counterfeit readers existed before RFID but they required you to physically scan your card through the reader. They would be easy to make for someone working within the right field.

When it comes to protecting your information, there are a number of wallets on the market that protect your RFID cards. You need to consider quality alongside price in this sort of purchase. If you’re looking for something cheap, you run the risk of purchasing a poor product that may allow your information to be taken.

First, we have the DIFRwear RFID Blocking Flip Side Wallet. This wallet costs just $23. It’s a standard black leather wallet. At this price, though, you won’t get the best security or style, but it’ll get you by.

The utilitarian design of the Flipside Strata Wallet is built entirely out of high-strength polymer and not leather or nylon. The tough exterior protects your cards from both theft and general wear and tear — a good deal at $30 and available through Amazon.

A more stylish wallet comes in the form of The Bi-Fold Leather Wallet by Access Denied. This sleek wallet comes in a beautiful saddle tan, black, chocolate or simply brown colors, while also maintaining high-quality security and omitting any bulkiness than the previous two have. Due to its more desirable features, this one’s a little more expensive at $42. It’s also available on Amazon.

RFID wallets won’t guarantee you total security, but they are a good place to start. The only way of completely averting RFID theft is by adopting total abstinence. However, if you can’t cope with that, we’d recommend you look into one of these RFID wallets to put your mind at ease.
