The jobs of airport attendees may soon be in danger (or in luck) thanks to a new invention that will roll out in Tokyo’s Haneda Airport. A Japanese robotic company called Cyberdyne created a line of robots that will help streamline and simplify processes for travelers and aid airport staff in everyday tasks.

The idea behind these three robot prototypes is to facilitate jobs that would normally be completed by humans such as cleaning, lifting luggage and transporting luggage. Three models have been developed and are currently in the testing phase in Tokyo.

The first model will act as a floor cleaner and will circulate through the airport to maintain a tidy appearance. A second model will serve as a luggage carrier with the ability to carry weight up to 400 pounds and transfer the luggage to a departure gate or ground transportation hub. The third version can be worn by baggage handlers and will aid in body positioning when lifting large objects such as luggage and oddly-shaped packages.

As the 2020 Summer Olympics approach and with the current massive influx of international travelers to Japan, the nation is eager to show visitors its technological capabilities. The robots are currently in a testing phase, and depending on their reception and success, they may be making their way to airports across the world.
