When you dive into the world of alternative home-brewing methods for your morning cup of coffee, you’ll find there is an array of options. There’s the pour over. The stove-top espresso maker. The French press.
But one of the simplest, quickest ways is also cheap and makes an absolutely outstanding cup of joe: the Aeropress. Retailing for around $35, this coffeemaker sits over your cup and brews espresso and regular coffee quickly and easily. You simply add coffee to the chamber, pour your desired amount of water, and press the plunger down. A filter at the bottom keeps your cup grit-free, and the method produces a smooth, low-acidity, low-bitterness cup of coffee you can transform into a latte, Americano, cappuccino, etc. Or, you can down it as a shot of espresso.
The Aeropress is easy to clean, and the filters are reusable for a handful of pours. It’s also lightweight and easy to transport, so you can take it camping or traveling if you find you absolutely need to have it with you at all times. The only slight downside is the water must be at 175 degrees before pouring, and that can take some creativity. Still, if you have a simple kitchen thermometer and a tea kettle, you should be all set. Once you taste this coffee, you’re not likely to go back to any other method.
