Sleeping comes with difficulty for some travelers. Sleeping is a must when traveling, but especially for people with nausea, fear of flying, motion sickness, claustrophobia or anxiety. Sleeping helps some people cope better with the flight, too.  There are some sleep aids that can help people with whatever the issue is, while some need to be prescribed, others are over-the-counter drugs that one can get without hassle.

Ambien needs to be prescribed by a doctor, but it is a sedative that slows down the brain and helps the user fall asleep relatively quickly (about 30 minutes later). It is not advised to take Ambien for short flights, but for those lasting more than seven hours.

Dramamine is an over-the-counter drug that proves useful for people with mild cases of motion sickness. It treats nausea and prevents a person from vomiting and feeling dizzy, all symptoms that comes with motion sickness.

Tylenol PM is great for people who prefer to sleep during flights. It has antihistamine that will put users right to sleep. The consequence is it will most likely make the user feel groggy when they land and may leave them with dry mouth. Other over-the-counter options include ZZZQuil, Sominex and Unisom.

Travelers are advised not to take any sleep aids with alcohol and do not take more than the prescribed dosage as it can have detrimental consequences in the long run.
