As the snow from the Canadian winter starts to thaw, Montreal comes alive with springtime festivals and outdoor events. Make the most of your spring vacation in the province of Quebec by coordinating your travel dates and taking advantage of the city’s signature festivals.
Start out by visiting the official tourism website to get a feel for the events planned around your vacation dates.
Starting in February, the Botanical Gardens’ butterfly greenhouse releases thousands of Lepidopteras. This event, called Butterflies Go Free, is a colorful family-friendly experience.
In April, the city hosts a six-day celebration of arts and culture. Montreal’s White Party involves the entire city and is a tribute to the creativity and diversity of the city and its inhabitants.
The city comes alive with crowds of cyclists each May. The Go Bike MTL festival is a celebration of peddle-power and makes good use of the city’s abundant bike paths.
Even if you don’t catch a festival, be sure to experience the charming Old Montreal. The cobblestone streets and historic buildings give the area a distinctly European feel. Spend the afternoon perusing the shops and enjoying the views from the adjacent park.
These cheery events will make even the coldest winters a distant memory.
