GoTenna’s tagline is “No Service, No Problem.” This new and innovative company has made it easy to be off the grid but still communicate with those of your choosing, despite having no cell phone service or Internet access. Whether hiking in the mountains or vacationing in a remote rainforest, GoTenna allows you to reach other GoTenna users wherever you both happen to be located, up to a 50-mile radius.

The device works alongside your smartphone, both Apple and Android devices, using radio waves to send messages. There’s also an emergency feature, which allows you to send an SOS message to any GoTenna user within range of you, regardless of whether or not you have previously connected with them. All emergency messages are screened by GoTenna and must be opened by the user on the receiving end. While GoTenna does not allow for voice messages, video or images, they do allow for sending your exact location alongside texts.

The GoTenna is relatively small, so you don’t have to worry about lugging around an extra piece of equipment. In total, it’s about six inches by one inch and weighs less than two ounces. The device can be recharged using a USB cable and is also designed to resist most outdoor incidents, such as rain.
