For travelers who love to see destinations on foot, Strol is the perfect app companion. Created by a team that believes cities are best seen through long walks and spur-of-the-moment discoveries. Strol allows you to build a walking itinerary in the destination of your choice by creating routes that take you right past the can’t-miss attractions and the most beloved hidden jewels.
With Strol, not knowing much about your location is part of the fun. Tell the app your location and time available, from half an hour up to three, and it will populate a circular route showing you some amazing spots, while still getting you back to where you need to be at the time you need to be there.
The app works in any city in the world, using places of interests indicated by billions of users. Strol also offers its same services on its website.
Keep in mind that the app does not offer you any time to actually stop and explore points of interest when it populates a timed route. For example, if you create a one-hour route, a map will appear showing you all of the points of interest, the route’s score in relation to other routes, the total walking time and the distance you’ll cover in either miles or kilometers. It’s a good idea to know what you’re interested in before you begin walking, as points of interest include hotels, dining, shopping and more, and far more points of interest are included than could ever be seen in a day, let alone an hour. However, the top points of interest will pop up with photos below your map’s route, so you can pick and choose what you’d like to see. You can even rate points of interest with a thumbs-up or thumbs-down, to help future users.
While the app could benefit from a better rating system and the option to personalize your route based on your interests, Strol is a great option for those looking to get out and explore, with no idea where to start.
