There are a lot of surveys, reports and articles talking about what travelers dislike about homestays. If you’ve ever booked a stay with Airbnb or VRBO, chances are good you have your own preferences. However, do you ever stop to wonder what the homestay hosts like or dislike about you?
A survey from FloridaPanhandle looked at vacation rental etiquette and the top things guests do that annoy hosts, as well as what guests think hosts want.
On the traveler side, there seems to be a fair amount of confusion as far as what constitutes proper vacation rental etiquette. More than a third of travelers said they didn’t think they needed to clean up before leaving their rental, and more than half thought they shouldn’t need to take out the trash.
Luckily, though, not cleaning up isn’t the top annoyance for homestay hosts when it comes to their guests. Instead, they reported their top grievances were guests not following house rules or guests bringing a surprise pet or extra person for their stay. Others cited hated behavior includes poor communication, late arrivals or departures, and dishonest reviews.
Overall, though, the survey concluded hosts most appreciated travelers who were respectful of their spaces, honest about their intentions and attentive to the rules.
