With Earth Day right around the corner and sustainable travel trending, many destinations highlight reasons eco-enthusiasts should visit. One of those destinations is Belize.
Belize features lush rainforests, secret waterfalls, mystical Maya sites and the world’s second-largest barrier reef. Belize lives by the motto, “Every Day is Earth Day.” The destination has committed to multiple preservation efforts to build environmental awareness, including phasing out all single-use plastics, working to remove the Belize Barrier Reef from the danger list, banning off-shore drilling, having eco-friendly accommodations and protecting the forested jungle landscape.
Along with these sustainable efforts, Belize also offers plenty of eco-friendly and sustainable resorts.
Sitting on 17 acres of pristine, peaceful, private green jungle, Ka’ana Resort remains committed to preserving and protecting Belize with light carbon footprint initiatives implemented around the property. The word Ka’ana means “heavenly place,” perfectly describing the resort’s eco-luxury vibe. The resort uses biodegradable products, recycles and produces high-quality drinking water without the use of a plastic bottle.
Located in the heart of the Maya Mountains, the resort spans more than 7,000 acres of pristine, tropical rainforest in the Stann Creek District of Belize. The Bocawina Rainforest Resort is an off-the-grid eco-lodge and the only resort located inside a national park in Belize. The resort serves as a model for sustainable ecotourism and conservation efforts. The all-inclusive resort offers fine dining, cultural experiences, jungle adventures and much more.
This lodge lies almost completely off the grid. None of Black Rock Lodge’s power comes from an electrical utility service. About 30 percent of the renewable energy comes from solar and the other 70 from hydro power. By doing this, the lodge significantly reduces its carbon emissions output.
