Tuscany is one of the most popular destinations in all of Italy. The rolling hills and historic towns look like something straight out of a fairytale. While Tuscany is great, it isn’t someplace you want to visit without being prepared.
Bring Money…Lots of Money
Tuscany is expensive. In fact, it’s one of, if not the most, expensive area in Italy. Hotels are pricey and staying in Florence can bankrupt you if you’re not prepared for it.
Stay Outside of Big Cities
One way to save on cash is to venture out to the smaller towns along the countryside. You’ll find cheaper room and board, fewer tourists and tons of friendly locals who will be happy to show you around.
Save Room In Your Tummy
Dear God, the food here is delicious. We hope you don’t have any gluten allergies, because the pasta is the best reason to visit. Let anyone and everyone who offers to cook for you do it.
Watch Out for Pickpockets
Sadly, thieves are abundant in the large cities of Tuscany just like everywhere else. Never keep your money in your back pocket or anywhere it’s easily accessible. Stay on your toes.
Learn a Little Italian
Since you’ll want to avoid the big cities, you need to brush up on your Italian so you can speak with more of the locals. First of all, it’s more respectful than expecting them to work with English and second, the people are so amazing here you should want to meet them all.
