If you think you’re the next Big Lebowski or Bill Murray in Kingpin, or you can throw a 280 with your eyes closed, then you’re probably on the hunt for some pretty awesome bowling alleys around the world. Since your local one probably isn’t doing it for you anymore, here are the 5 top bowling alleys around the world.
The National Bowling Stadium,Reno, Nev.
Starting in Nevada, Reno is home to the The National Bowling Stadium. You can’t miss it as it has a gigantic silver bowling ball on the outside of the building. With 78 lanes and christened the “Taj Mahal of Tenpins,” The National Bowling Stadium was built in 1995 costing nearly $50 million, attracting tournament bowlers from around the globe. If you’re serious about bowling, make sure you come here.
Sobek, Buenos Aires, Argentina
This place is a little more aimed at the type of person who still goes to roller discos. If you’re looking for a nightclub-meets-bowling-alley, then you’ve come to the right place. It has UV lights, 80’s music and glow-in-the-dark bowling balls. Oh, and Egyptian hieroglyphics on the walls. It’s great fun, but this probably isn’t the place you want to come if you have kids.
EST Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan
Japan and America went through the same 70s and 80s bowling craze, and the majority of equipment used in Japan was imported from the United States. However, this bowling alley in Tokyo adds its crazy style by allowing you to play until 5.30 a.m as well as sing karaoke, of course.
The White House Bowling Alley, Washington, D.C
If you get clearance by the Secret Service, then you can come and bowl at the White House. The bowling alley, installed during President Harry S. Truman’s tenure, is in the basement beneath the North Portico. While it lacks glamour with only one lane and barely any facilities, you can still say you’ve bowled a turkey at the White House (even if the turkey bit isn’t true).
All Star Lanes, London, England
Slap bang in the middle of Brick Lane, a street dedicated to the best curry houses you’ll find in England, is All Star Lanes, a self-proclaimed ’boutique bowling alley.’ With intricate cocktails, fine dining and good music, this bowling alley makes a great location for a night out or private parties.
