Top 5 / Europe

The beauty of a city like Brussels is its central location in the middle of northern Europe, putting the Belgian capital just a short drive or train ride from some of the region’s most captivating cities. Consider Brussels as a home base for visiting these nearby cities, all of which make for feasible daytrips.

Ghent
Ghent is so close to Brussels it can be squeezed into just half a day. Spend a quiet morning strolling through the pedestrianized city center and snapping photos of the picturesque row houses along the water.

Bruges
While driving might take an hour and a half, a high-speed train can take you from Brussels to Bruges in just under an hour. The city’s intricate architecture and charming canals make it one of the more Instagram-worthy cities in Belgium.

Amsterdam
Hop on a train for a two-hour journey north to the enticing Dutch city of Amsterdam. Book a canal cruise in advance or spend time wandering the narrow streets and dipping into the world-famous “coffee shops.”

Cologne
Two hours east of Brussels is the medieval city of Cologne, Germany. Known for its Gothic architecture and thousands of years of history, Cologne is also home to renowned art museums such as the Museum Ludwig.

Paris
Wake up early and hit the road heading southwest to reach France’s capital city in approximately four hours. If you’re not keen on driving the distance, opt for the high-speed train and make it there in just an hour and a half.
