North America

If you’re looking forward to a good scare this Halloween, check out a few of these top-rated haunted houses in the United States.

The Pennhurst Asylum, Spring City, Pa,

This haunted house attraction comes with a chilling history. The Pennhurst State School and Hospital faced continuous scrutiny over its abusive care for residents and closed after almost 80 years of operation. The supposedly haunted grounds now house realistic, hospital-themed attractions featuring life-like animatronics and highly motivated actors. Each season they make changes and add new props to delight and scare visitors.

13th Floor, Denver, Colo.
The 13th floor has been featured in USA Today, and on Discovery Channel as Denver’s largest haunted house. This year, they have added new attractions featuring werewolves, pirates, zombies and characters inspired by slasher films. This attraction has tickets available until mid-November. Lines are known to be long, so check out their fast pass option.

Thrillvania Haunted House Park, Terrell, Texas
As featured on The Travel Channel’s Americas Scariest Haunted Attractions, this park gives guests an entire night of frights. Thrillvania Haunted House Park is comprised of five attractions on 50 acres of haunted land. Their famous Verdun Manor has been scaring guests brave enough to take on “former residents” and the haunted graveyard before reaching the manor itself.

Headless Horseman Hayrides & Haunted Houses, Ulster Park, N.Y.

Headless Horseman Hayrides & Haunted Houses was named “America’s Scariest Haunted House in the Northeast” by MTV, and “#1 Hallow Scream” by The Weather Channel. It has seven haunted attractions in addition to the haunted hayride and features children’s days in October for family-friendly visits.

Terror Behind the Walls at Eastern State Penitentiary, Philadelphia, Pa.

This haunted house is located in an abandoned prison and has six terrifying attractions. Their newest Lock Down attraction features a long-awaited prison escape theme. Even Ghost Hunters’ Adam Berry called Terror Behind the Walls “one of the BEST haunted attractions in the country.”
