Top 5 / Africa

Ghana’s shifting landscape of stunning coastlines and tropical savannahs make it one of the most diverse and awe-inspiring in Africa. With such a vast array of natural wonders, it should come as no surprise its national parks are the country’s biggest attraction.

Kakum National Park

Kakum National Park is the most-visited park in Ghana. The stunning rainforest is home to more than 300 species of birds and 600 species of butterflies. You’ll also find elephants, leopards and numerous primates here. More than 300 meters of canopy walkways allow you to explore the region from a safe spot.

Bia National Park

Bia National Park is home to some of the tallest trees in Ghana, home to numerous endangered species. The white-breasted guinea fowl is a popular attraction, as are the elephants, bushbucks and chimps.

Digya National Park

Digya National Park is one of the larger parks in Ghana at an impressive 3,500 square kilometers. It rests alongside Lake Volta and serves as home to one of the largest elephant populations in the country. The diversity of the fauna here, from gallery forest to savannah woodland, make it worth a visit.

Bui National Park

Bui National Park sits directly on top of the Black Volta River and is home to the country’s elusive hippopotamus population. Visitors are encouraged to take a canoe tour down the water to catch a glimpse of these, along with antelope, monkeys and other river creatures.

Mole National Park

Ghana’s largest national park is a whopping 4,500 square kilometers. It’s so big locals built entire camps on site for visitors who want to spend more than a day. The vast savannah and waterways provide a home for elephants, leopards, lions, buffalo and more.
