Brazil is known to be a great destination for those who like to have a good time. Music and dancing are a big part of the national culture, and a party is never far away. Here are five of the best that you should try and check out.
Carnaval, Rio de Janeiro
Every year Rio comes alive for the traditional Carnaval parades, which community groups take all year to prepare for. Expect thousands of coordinated dancers, huge parades and a party that lasts for five days.
Festa do Bonfim, Salvador
This city in northern Brazil is famous for its Black Brazilian population, and the Festa do Bonfim is evidence of close links with the Candomblé religious tradition of Africa. There is a huge procession, dancing and plenty of singing.
Bumba-Meu-Boi, São Luis Maranhão
The legend of Bumba-Meu-Boi is celebrated across Brazil, but the festival in São Luis is perhaps the best place to see the party go down. Dancers and musicians parade through the streets retelling a fantastical story about a resurrected bull, a priest and a man in women’s clothes.
Festas Juninas
These festivals take place across the country and celebrate Brazilian rural life, with accordion music, forró dancing and traditional peasant dress. On June 23, huge celebrations take place in Campina Grande, Paraiba state and Caruaru, Pernambuco state.
New Year in Rio de Janeiro
Millions of people dressed all in white throng the iconic sands of Copacabana beach to drink, dance and ring in the New Year. Some of the biggest musical acts in the world perform here, and the party is one you will never forget.
