Traditional Moroccan cuisine is difficult to cook, so finding a restaurant that does it well is rare. We think these places in Tangier, Morocco, are up to the task.
Le Nabab
Le Nabab manages to invoke an air of sophistication while still being a place the Average Joe would feel comfortable stopping for lunch. They serve traditional Moroccan food and can pump out a pretty respectable tagine. They’ve also got a great assortment of Moroccan wine available.
Le Saveur du Poisson
If you’re comfortable with surprises and great seafood, Le Saveur is a delightful place to be. There’s no menu in this tiny restaurant, so you have to accept whatever the chef gives you. Don’t worry, though, there’s a reason why there’s a line outside Le Saveur every night.
Art et Gourmet
The highlight of Art et Gourmet is found in the terrace overlooking the heart of Tangier’s bustling square. It’s small, affordable and a delicious stop for an afternoon brunch for their ceviche and chocolate desserts.
Anna & Paolo
It seems odd to be recommending an Italian restaurant in Morocco, but Anna & Paolo established themselves as some of the most attentive restaurant owners in the region. The décor is charming, wine fabulous and the Italian food is served with Moroccan and vegetarian flair.
El Morocco Club
Finding a good drink in Morocco isn’t as simple as walking into a bar. You have to search for alcohol. Luckily, El Morocco Club has an extensive selection of liquor served alongside traditional French cuisine. There’s also a ritzy piano bar located beneath the main floor where other travelers love to gather and swap stories.
