Toronto is the capital of Canada’s Ontario province. If you want to visit the popular Canadian city, but you’re on a budget, there are still plenty of ways to experience the best Toronto has to offer.
When to Go
It’s no secret Canada has cold winters. Many tourists visit during the summer and prices peak during this busy season. Opt to visit Toronto during the colder months to save on airfare and lodging.
Getting Around
Once in Toronto, take advantage of the city’s extensive public transportation system. The easy-to-navigate system includes bus, subway and streetcar. If you plan to hop around throughout the day, a day pass costs $13.
Sightseeing
There are plenty of inexpensive or free activities and attractions in Toronto. Stroll through St. Lawrence Market for a taste of Canada’s culinary offerings. Entrance is free. The Art Gallery of Ontario offers free admission on Wednesday. Visit Harbourfront Centre, a non-profit organization hosting a variety of activities and special programming for free. Hang out at The Beaches, a hip neighborhood along the waterfront. Visitors will find quirky shops and interesting dining options. Kensington Market is another trendy neighborhood where you’ll find plenty of unique bargains.
