The J. Paul Getty Museum draws more than 1 million visitors annually to its two locations. The Getty Center sits atop a hill in the Brentwood section of the city, offering spectacular views of Los Angeles. The museum is home to pre-20th century European paintings, drawings, sculpture and decorative arts as well as 19th- and 20th-century American, Asian and European photographs. The building boasts a beautiful outdoor sculpture garden and terrace. The Getty Center is closed on Mondays. Admission is free.

The second, smaller location — the Getty Villa — is located in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood. This museum is inspired by ancient Greece and Rome. The building is a recreation of an ancient Roman country house and its collection includes art from the Stone Age through the fall of the Roman Empire. The Getty Villa is open Wednesday–Monday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Admission is free.
