Tips / Travel

More than 73 million people live in the region between New England and Washington, D.C. As such, there are many unique cities, methods of transit and cultures to discover. From mountains to rolling hills, visitors and locals alike can use a variety of methods to explore this particular region of the United States.

Getting There

The Northeast Corridor is a high-speed Amtrak line which runs through Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C. This train can get from New York to the nation’s capital city in just under two hours. If one were to drive the same distance, it would take more than four hours in traffic. On regional rail, which generally takes longer but is less expensive, Philadelphia can be reached in about an hour and a half from the Big Apple, or an hour on the Acela Express. In many of these cities, commuters are eschewing conventional yellow taxicabs for more convenient, cheaper options like Uber or Lyft.

Exploring Local Destinations

Each big city in the Northeastern United States has a unique story to tell, but you might be missing out if you stick to the big cities alone. From Boston, take the Downeaster to Portland, Maine, for a relaxed, smaller city vibe unlike one you might find in the West Coast namesake. Big shoppers might want to see the King of Prussia Mall just outside of Philadelphia, which stands as the single largest mall in the country, which boasts an impressive 3.8 million square feet and more than 550 stores. In Washington, D.C., several historic destinations both in and outside of the city limits inspire the wandering mind.
