Traveling For Sporting Events

If you or your significant other happens to be a big sports fan, you know attending the sporting events of your favorite teams can include a fair amount of traveling. Maybe you’d rather not follow a specific team around the country, but instead want to attend one large event, such as the Super Bowl or Kentucky Derby. Regardless, you’ll want to do your best to be informed and plan ahead before traveling to the next big game, match or race.

Buy your tickets as far in advance as possible. As the date of your event draws closer, the demand for tickets will increase, shooting the cost upwards until you’re paying unfortunate prices for second-rate seats. The same applies to booking your accommodations and any extra activities you want to take part in while in your destination. You’ll want to be able to choose a hotel both up to your standards and near to the event venue, as well as in your price range, which typically isn’t possible at the last minute.

When packing, make sure you know and have thoroughly researched both the destination and the venue. Will you be sitting on the side of the football stadium that receives the most sun during an afternoon game? You should probably pack some sunglasses. Is it projected to rain or snow? You maybe should invest in a poncho. Some stadiums only allow clear bags, and you may want to purchase one beforehand rather than leave your belongings at the hotel. If you have dietary restrictions, research what foods are sold at your venue so you’ll know if you should eat before or after the event.

If you’d rather not do a large amount of planning and research to ensure your trip goes smoothly, you can always enlist the help of a sports tour operator such as Sports Travel, who can not only give you access to exclusive events, but also book your airfare and accommodations. For example, if you’re dying to check out the NFL in the UK, they offer packages that include round-trip airfare, accommodations at the InterContinental London Park Lane, game tickets, transportation, a sightseeing tour of London and staff to assist you during the entire visit. Sports Travel also offers packages for college sports, Formula 1, golf, horse racing, MLB, NASCAR, soccer and tennis.
