Tips / Travel

Having a stomachache is an unpleasant experience made worse when travel is involved. If you have a naturally sensitive stomach, travel — especially to international destinations — can literally be painful. Know your limits and follow our tips for traveling with a sensitive stomach.

  • Pack a stash of portable foods you like. Kind Bars travel well and are a safe, filling option.

  • Avoid problem foods. While this may seem obvious, sampling local goodies will be tempting, so stay away from any food that causes you trouble.

  • Stay away from spicy dishes and caffeinated drinks. These will only exacerbate an upset stomach.

  • Be careful ordering raw food or uncooked fruits and vegetables.

  • Steer clear of street food with meat or dairy — you don’t know how long it’s been sitting out of refrigeration.

  • Research restaurants and cafés before you leave. If the reviews are questionable, stay away.

  • Don’t be adventurous. Visiting a destination far from home isn’t the time to try an unusual dish if you have a sensitive stomach. Stick with the foods you know and like.

  • Drink plenty of water while on the road. If you’re concerned about the cleanliness of the local water, buy bottled water.

  • Pack pills like GasX, TUMS or Pepto-Bismol, so you won’t be stuck if discomfort happens.

  • Chew peppermint gum or drink peppermint tea. Mint is known to settle an upset stomach.

Platform Helps Remote Workers, Business Travelers Find Work-Friendly Hotels

If you’ve ever attempted to work on the go — not necessarily for a business trip, but just because your job offers the flexibility of remote working — you may have struggled with working from your hotel room. Your options are typically plugging your laptop in next to a tiny in-room table, if you’re lucky, or you’re stuck answering emails from your hotel bed — hardly conducive to productivity.
