Tucson, Arizona, just launched a new Astro Trail, highlighting some of the best spots in and around the area for stargazing. The trail, now available as a web app and printed guide, takes you to all of the dark sky-related stops in Tucson, including world-class astronomy institutes like Kitt Peak National Observatory and Richard F. Caris Mirror Lab, where the largest telescope lenses in the world are made.

Kitt Peak National Observatory, on Tohono O’odham Nation, is home to one of the largest arrays of optical and radio telescopes in the world. Flandrau Science Center & Planetarium sits on University of Arizona’s campus, inviting visitors of all ages to discover the world of science. Other stops include Steward Observatory, Saguaro National Park East & West Districts, Kartchner Caverns State Park, Oracle State Park, and Pima Air & Space Museum.

Most recently, the foundation outplanted more than 30 nursery-grown fragments of elkhorn coral. Elkhorn coral is a critically endangered species, with the population declining by as much as 97 percent in the Caribbean since the 1980s.
