Un-Plan Your Trip with Lufthansa Surprise

Some travelers get a kick out of planning a vacation; from browsing the best hotel options to cashing in points for discounted flights, trip planning can be a thrill frequent travelers look forward to. For others, planning a trip means spending hours in front of the computer reading through reviews, anxiety surrounding booking the best available flight and striving to stay within budget at every turn. For this latter group of travelers, German airline Lufthansa created a program that removes the stress often involved in prepping for a trip.

In May 2016, the airline introduced Lufthansa Surprise, allowing potential travelers to book a non-stop flight of the airline’s choosing. To begin the process, visitors to Lufthansa’s website can choose from one of its curated trip categories, like Sun & Sand, Nature or Party On. Travelers can then view a list of cities associated with each category (e.g., Party On cities include Barcelona, Amsterdam and Dublin, among others) and the price at which these flights start (as low as $76). Users can also opt out of select cities if they have already been or have no desire to visit them, but each time you unselect a destination, the price increases. The surprise destination is revealed at the end of the booking process.

LH Surprise arrangements can be made one to 42 days before departure, with trips spanning one or two nights.

Currently, Lufthansa Surprise is only available for departures from Frankfurt or Munich airports, but travelers visiting Europe this summer and craving a spontaneous getaway can take advantage of the offer.
