Bocas del Toro is a collection of islands on the Caribbean coast of Panama, and Bocas Town serves as a tourist hub for visitors.
Go for breakfast at Café del Mar, a favorite spot for locals and visitors alike. It’s right on the water, so you can listen to the sea while you chow down on classic breakfast dishes like pancakes ($7). After you’ve eaten, go to Finca Los Monos Botanical Garden, where you can watch monkeys and other animals in 10 hectares of secondary rainforest ($15 garden/$25 birdwatching tours).
Head back into town for lunch at Tom’s, where a $6 set menu offers a delicious meal at a bargain price. It’s easy to spend an hour or so here looking down over the water from the second-floor terrace while you eat.
In the afternoon, relax on the beach before dinner at Azul, a gourmet restaurant that offers great value. You won’t have to worry about choosing from the menu because there isn’t one; simply pick the vegetarian or non-vegetarian six-course set meal ($20 set menu). If you want to go out afterward, La Iguana Surf Bar offers $2 beer and tequila combos that will really get your night going with a bang. For something more sophisticated, try the craft beers at Bocas Brewery.
