Under $100 / North America

Looking for a Florida beach getaway with plenty of historic charm and fewer crowds? Look no further than Pensacola. The lovely Gulf shores, vibrant culinary scene, wealth of museums and lots of shopping opportunities will leave you coming back for more.

Grab breakfast at Native Cafe, a local favorite. The hefty breakfast menu includes a wide range of breakfast plates, omelets, French toast, pancakes, eggs Benedict and more. Some of the specialties include the spicy shrimp and grits and the Southeastern omelet with steak, jalapenos, peppers, onions, cheese and salsa. Breakfast options start at as little as $4.50.

Indulge your inner av-geek at the National Naval Aviation Museum. Admittance is free. On display are more than 150 aircraft and spacecraft, including Blue Angels A-4 Skyhawks. If you’re in town in time to catch a Blue Angels aerial acrobatics show, it’s an experience you won’t want to miss.

Get lunch and some midday libations at Casino Beach Bar & Grille. There’s no casino here, but there is one amazing beach bar. Get your fix of the local seafood and tropical-inspired cocktails, starting at just $6. You’ll find great options like peel-and-eat shrimp and sesame-ginger lettuce wraps.

Take a trip down Palafox Street, right in downtown Pensacola, to shop ’til you drop at an array of local boutiques that sell everything from high-end denim to antiques, handmade beauty products to gourmet eats. Even if you don’t find something that catches your fancy, you’ll still enjoy a little window shopping to work off that buzz.

Get a little more history into your system at Historic Pensacola Village. This huge display stretches over several city blocks and includes many structures either directly from the early 19th century or rebuilt in the same manner. From churches to homes, archaeological sites to boarding houses, you’ll see just how Floridians lived more than two centuries ago. Admittance is $8.

Finish off with dinner and a perfect view of the ocean at Red Fish Blue Fish. The menu is modern with a touch of Southern (think edamame succotash and pickled jalapeño pimento cheese). Dinner options start at $9. If you’re traveling with your furry friend, feel free to bring them along, grab a picnic table and enjoy some open-air dining to end the day on a good note.
