Grab breakfast at Woodstock Cafe to fuel your adventures. You can create your own breakfast for $7 or go with a three-egg omelet for $9 or The Skillet for $10 — a tempting mix of smashed, roasted potatoes, onion, garlic, sausage or bacon, cheese, eggs and crema.

Then, brush up on your knowledge of the local history and culture with a visit to The Museum of the Shenandoah Valley. The historic house, built in the 1700s, is home to rotating exhibits, Shenandoah Valley decorative arts, European and American art and more. The exterior is worth checking out, too, with its beautiful gardens, including a rose and statue garden. Tickets are $10.

The Heritage Museum is also a good pick, with its exhibits on Shenandoah Valley history, 19th-century folk art and the Civil War. Tickets are only $8.

Head into Shenandoah National Park and grab a quick lunch at the Pollock Dining Room. The lunch menu includes vegetarian and gluten-free items, and most options are less than $15. Save room for dessert — the specialty is the Mile-High Blackberry Ice Cream Pie.

From there, spend several hours seeing Shenandoah National Park. Fall is particularly a good time to see the lay of the land, as the mountains are awash in fall colors. The Skyline Drive route is 105 miles with 75 overlooks. You’ll have a difficult time not stopping at the majority of them. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife as you go.

Cap your day with dinner at Edinburg Mill Restaurant, a rustic American eatery set in a historic building and serving farm-to-table foods. Enjoy a range of entrees less than $25, like the Chesapeake fried oysters or the Virginia cat fish.
