The picturesque village of Vinales has become a tourist hotspot as visitors flock to take in the spectacular scenery of Cuba’s tobacco-growing heartland.
Start your day with a hearty breakfast at your bed & breakfast. Almost all of the casa particulares in Cuba offer eggs, coffee, fruit and juice for around $5.

For energetic travelers, the best way to see the area is by bike. Hire your steed from one of the touts on the main street, which should not cost more than $8 for the day.
Head out of town to Hotel Los Jazmines and reward yourself after the climb out of town with a dip in the picturesque swimming pool ($7 with a drink). Refreshed, it’s time to descend to the valley floor on one of the cycle tracks.
Stop off at a tobacco-drying shed to buy Cuban cigars direct from the supplier. This is the same tobacco used in the more expensive brands like Cohiba, but without the inflated price tag ($25 for 17 cigars).

Continue your bike ride through picturesque fields down to the Mural of Prehistory, a massive artwork painted on the side of a cliff. The mural itself is more of an oddity than a masterpiece, but the on-site restaurant offers a huge tasty meal of traditional smoked pork with all of the trimmings for $14.
In the afternoon, take the bikes up to the Indian Cave, where you can take a short boat ride through an impressive cavern ($3). Head back into town for a shower before dinner at El Olivo ($12) and drinks at 3J Bar ($4 per cocktail).
