Lima is a fascinating city and one you could spend weeks exploring. However, if you only have one day, here is the best way to spend your time.
Let the good folks at Agora Arte y Café ($10) fix you up a great breakfast looking over the famous Parque Kennedy in Miraflores, home to a community of cats. Take some time to pet the resident felines before heading off to Lima Centro for a look around the Plaza de Armas and the famous market streets.
For lunch, make the most of Lima’s seaside location by chowing down on a menu at Santos Pescadores. For $5 you can get a starter, a main course and a drink. The chupe de pescado (fish soup) comes highly recommended for starters, and the arroz con mariscos (rice with seafood) is a great main course.
In the afternoon, head to the Barranco district and take a look around the trendy boutiques such as Aikon, where you’ll find fashionable gifts and souvenirs. Stop in at Barranco Beer Company to sample the local craft beers ($5 per pint), and then stop in at Pan, Sal, Aire for a delicious pizza ($15).
Stay out at Bar 55 for some cocktails ($9 per drink) and finish up at El Dragon if you fancy a dance.
