Under-the-Radar Spots to See Fall Foliage

When you think of traveling to see some of the country’s best fall foliage, you probably think of heading to destinations in the Northeast to see the mountains of Vermont and New Hampshire covered in a swath of red and orange, or traveling to the Southwest to see the dramatic aspen stands awash in gold. But if you’ve already been there and done that, you might want to consider one of these two under-the-radar spots to see fall foliage.

Bloomington, Indiana

Bloomington has really come into its own as of late. The Midwest destination offers plenty to see and do and, in the fall, you can enjoy the colors both in the city and in the great outdoors. Take to one of Monroe County’s three lakes or book a ride with one of Bloomington’s three hot-air balloon companies.

Williamsburg, Virginia

Williamsburg lies just south enough you can expect the fall foliage to last a little bit longer than it does in the Northeast, making it a great pick if you can’t get away until later in the season. The easiest way to see the area’s fall foliage is by booking a stay at Kingsmills Resort, which sits on 2,900 acres, all accessible via its own cycling and walking trails.
