The invention everyone either craved or feared is finally here — the selfie flash. That’s right, you can now take selfies like a pro with a special attachable camera flash for your smartphone.
However, there’s a catch. At the moment it only works if you own Lenovo’s Vibe X2 Pro phone. We’re guessing one for the iPhone will be following shortly, though.
The Vibe Xtension Selfie Flash plugs directly into the smartphone’s audio jack, effectively canceling your ability to plug in headphones but totally amplifying your ability to take selfies in poor lighting. The flash delivers seamless natural color tones, so you’ll still have to add your own Instagram filters.
The Selfie Flash also delivers 100 percent shutter sync, meaning it’ll go off as soon as you press the camera button so there are no awkward delays in your posing. Lenovo claims it lasts up to 100 selfies, so judging by social media standards of teens these days, we’re guessing that’s about an hour.
There’s no word yet on whether or not there will be an adapter for this product to use on other products or if it’s a nefarious effort on Lenovo’s part to get people to buy their phones. Either way, we’re sure it’ll sell.
Lenovo has yet to set a release date, but expect to see it hit stores this year.
