Anyone who follows or plays videogames will tell you 2018 was one of the best years the medium has ever seen. Epic stories spanning all kinds of gameplay, narrative styles and tone made for a truly impressive year. This year has a few heavy hitters coming as well.

This year already had a number of incredible releases. Kingdom Hearts III, Resident Evil 2, Wargroove and Anthem landed, but the biggest games of the year are yet to come.

Games in the second half of the year largely lack release dates. The big videogame show and convention, the Electronic Entertainment Expo comes in June, and the show is where a lot of the news for the year gets released.

Nintendo’s big games include Pokémon Sword and Shield. The new games have been highly anticipated by fans of the series, and the new games represent the series’ jump to new hardware with Nintendo Switch. Nintendo is also gearing up to release a new Animal Crossing and new Legend of Zelda game this year, both will be huge for the Japanese game company.

The Xbox One has a few big games expected to land later this year as well. Battletoads is a follow-up to an early 1990s cult classic, while Gears of War 5 looks to continue an epic and violent saga for another entry.

Last year was much bigger for Playstation 4, but big games coming to the console this year include Shenmue III, launching in August, and MedEvil, a remake of an original Playstation game.
