Virtuoso frequently predicts the upcoming biggest trends in travel and this year is no different. The brand recently released its top predictions for the remaining year of travel, looking at the year thus far and into 2023.
Overall, Virtuoso proclaims travel is roaring back, with many travelers ready to return to pre-pandemic normalcy. In many destinations, including the United States and Australia, outbound leisure travel sales for 2022 surpassed those for 2019. Travel sales for 2023 are likewise trending higher than 2019 numbers. Virtuoso found 74 percent of survey respondents said they intend to increase their travel spending to $27,800 per person per year in 2023.
But what can you expect before the year’s end? About 45 percent of survey respondents intend to travel within the next three months, though nearly 40 percent said they are waiting until 2023 to kick off those much-awaited travel plans. While, through the summer, destinations such as Italy, France and Greece were popular, now through December, the most popular destinations still include Italy and France, but also Mexico and Canada, with holiday-specific and seasonal travel taking a top spot.
Solo travel is up for seniors. While younger millennials and older members of Gen Z are taking more trips, too, their interest in solo travel has waned.
