Buc-ee’s is an institution in many destinations — particularly Texas — around the southern United States, recognizable via its large red and yellow logo sporting a beaver. Don’t make the mistake of just assuming Buc-ee’s is any old gas station, though. Like Wawa and Sheetz in the Northeast and Midwest, Buc-ee’s is so much more. If you’ve never been, here’s what to expect during your first visit.
It’s Huge
Everything is huge. There are a million (okay, maybe not a million) gas pumps. The parking lot? Huge. The interior? Huge. The bathrooms? Huge.
Buc-ee’s Merch is Big Business
About half of the store could be taken up purely by Buc-ee’s merch. T-shirts, hats, tote bags, swimsuits, magnets, shot glasses, décor — you name it and it’s emblazoned with the beaver.
The Food Lives Up to the Hype
Buc-ee’s fans will tell you the food is incredibly good, and they’re not wrong. The barbecue gets the most love. If you’re looking for it in all the hubbub, just follow the sound of the singing. Yes, singing. Behind the barbecue counter, Buc-ee’s employees sing whenever fresh brisket is brought out.
