Germany is one of those countries that doesn’t have a bad season. There are amazing things to see and do year-round, but fall has plenty of reasons to make it onto your travel radar. To start with, traveling anywhere in the fall guarantees smaller crowds. As summer vacationers head back home and kids return to school, crowds dwindle and prices drop on just about all destinations. Germany is no exception.
Germany is famous for its natural beauty, but in the fall the trees of its bountiful forests begin to show fall colors. Every year people travel just to see the changing of the leaves (think Vermont and New Hampshire) but with expansive forests at every turn, Germany is the perfect place to experience this yearly phenomenon.
As fall rolls around so does harvest season and that means wine. Lots of wine. Which also means festivals to celebrate the harvest of the good stuff. A trip to Germany in the fall, particularly through the month of October, is a great time to partake in some of the merry-making and sample some German wine.
And then there is Oktoberfest. Need I say more? Well, maybe just a bit: Oktoberfest is celebrated nationwide every year from late September to early October and it is a great opportunity to get to know a little more about the country’s history and culture — although, let’s face it, the beer and the bratwurst will probably capture most of your attention.
