Travelers don’t always have the time or ability to find something to write on, which can be a hassle if you find yourself needing to jot down some directions, translations or restaurant recommendations — and are adventuring sans cell phone.

Luckily, Fisher Space Pen Company, based in Nevada, invented a pen that can write just about anywhere.

The company first patented their Space Pen — also known as the Zero Gravity Pen — in the 1960s, and still manufactures several different models today. As the name suggests, the pen became known for its ability to write in zero gravity, in outer space. According to the company, astronauts used the pen during the Apollo 7 mission in 1968.

You don’t have to be headed out of the atmosphere to enjoy Fisher’s line of epic pens, though. Their pens can write underwater — yes, you could jot down notes while scuba diving! — on wet or greasy paper, at extreme temperatures and at every angle imaginable.

Fisher offers a line of different, multitalented pens, as well as mechanical pencils, ink refills, clips, erasers, lead and more. If you happen to be in the neighborhood of Boulder City, Nev., you can stop into the company’s factory store, which is open from 8 a.m.–4 p.m. on weekdays.

Call me nerdy, but these unconventional writing utensils enthrall me — I am itching to test one out while snorkeling.
