Nintendo Switch Makes Console Gaming Viable for Travelers

Until now, being a mobile gamer had its limitations. GameBoys and other portable consoles have great content, but technical limitations make them pale in comparison to console titles. Smartphone gaming is already more popular than playing on consoles and computers, but the games are much simpler and directed toward the casual gamer.

This is where Nintendo Switch comes in, bridging the gap between console and mobile gaming with a unique tablet/controller setup. Unless you’re a PC gamer with a robust laptop, the Switch is your best bet for playing the latest releases with up-to-date graphics. Nintendo always prided itself on balancing technology with content friendly enough for the casual gamer. While you can get more impressive specs out of Xbox One and Playstation 4, the Switch makes up for that with innovation and classic titles.

Players have the option of using the console in three modes, utilizing the packaged tablet and modular controllers. Television mode is the traditional gaming setup where you dock the tablet and connect it your TV. Tabletop mode essentially lets you use the tablet as a TV, while handheld mode allows you to play games on the go by locking the two sides of the Joy-Con controllers onto the tablet. This kind of design means you can take your adventure from the living room to the outdoors without losing a single checkpoint.

None of this matters if there aren’t any good titles, and Nintendo has more than provided on that front. Its flagship release is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, a longtime Nintendo franchise since the days of the NES. While some of the latest wavered in quality, Breath of the Wild is being called the best Zelda title since Ocarina of Time, bringing open world gaming and improved graphics to the mobile/console hybrid.

Other titles include Mario Kart 8, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fast RMX, a reimagination of the Wipeout racing series.
